Portland Group is looking for a full time QUALITY (TECHNICAL) MANAGER at our group of companies. Our offices are situated outside Durbanville on the Vissershok Road.
We are a dynamic vibrant company supplying the building industry with aggregates, readymix and precast elements (hollowcore and stairs).
The person will take charge of a non – accredited laboratory with 2 staff members.
This position reports to the General Manager. Responsibilities will include but is not limited to the following:
Key Responsibilities:
Quality & Process
- Control Quality & Process Control through concrete cube testing & grading of aggregates
- Statistical analysis of results and adjustments made based on stats (history)
- Monitor moisture checks, slump checks and water demand
- Manage mix designs on batching system, evaluate and report back
- Design concrete mixes as and when requested for spec jobs
- All non – conformances to be investigated, actioned and closed out
- Develop quality methods and procedures on a continual basis
- Responsible for the selection, monitoring & supplier management of raw materials
- Implement and manage a cost saving action plan
Stakeholder Management
- Communicate internally to two Aggregate Quarries to give feedback on material tested and quality
- Assist sales in customer quality queries, pricing, results and mix designs
- Responsible for 5 readymix plants mix designs, performance on strength, and do adjustments
General
- Draw up reports for weekly and monthly meetings from the stats captured
- Ensure all lab equipment is maintained
- Oversee the regular calibration of all scales
Minimum Requirements:
- Matric + relevant SCT (School of Concrete Technology) or similar qualification
- Technical knowledge of aggregates and concrete
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in relevant technical field
- Excellent communication, problem solving and team management skills
- Excellent reporting and data analysis skills

This position offers a market-related salary – dependent on previous experience and qualifications. Employees become members of a provident fund after their probation period. The annual close down is in December/January during the builder’s holiday. Working hours are from 07:00 to 17:00, but only until 15:00 on a Friday.
