Nestled between the Diep River and the Tygerberg mountain range, Portland Quarry is situated on the pictureque Vissershok Road just outside Durbanville. Nico Heyns and Helenus Scholtz purchased Portland Quarry in July 2000.
Our aggregates are Hornfels based and we are known for the quality of aggregate our quarry produces. Hornfels is called so because of its exceptional toughness and texture both reminiscent of animal horns. These properties are due to fine grained non-aligned crystals with platy or prismatic habits.
We also pride ourselves on the cubical shape of our stone, which plays an important role in producing quality concrete. Our aggregates are delivered to your site with the numerous sub contractors roaming the Vissershok Road each day, to deliver an excellent service.
Portland Quarry is a proud member of ASPASA. The Aggregate and Sand Producers Association of Southern Africa (ASPASA) is a voluntary membership, private sector producers association. ASPASA is a member of the Chamber of Mines, but represents those companies that are in the business of producing aggregate and sand and is better known for operating quarries, sand pits and crushing operations. Aspasa stands on its own, even though a member of the Chamber. Read more about ASPASA.
