Portland Group is looking for a full time ACCOUNTANT. Our office is situated outside Durbanville on the Vissershok Road.
This position reports to the Finance Manager.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintenance of fixed asset register for multiple entities including calculation of depreciation and reconciliation of depreciation journals to the accounting system.
- Maintenance of tax asset register for multiple entities.
- Preparation and review of month end intercompany invoicing.
- Review of weekly payments.
- Preparation of monthly VAT returns for multiple entities, submission of reviewed VAT 201s and setting of payments.
- End to end accounting for smaller entities including, but not limited to:
- Capturing transactions from bank statements on a daily basis;
- Preparing month end bank reconciliations for review and sign-off
- Preparing month end creditors recons and compiling relevant supporting documentation to submit creditors for payment.
- Assisting with preparation of year end audit for multiple entities including preparation of required working papers and liaising with auditors to resolve queries.
- Assisting with preparation and submission of SARS returns (additional to VAT 201s)
- Prepare monthly stock working papers for review and sign-off and manage year end stock count across multiple locations.
- Assist with ensuring that deadlines are met for finance team month end deliverables.
- Engaging with suppliers and customers to assist with query resolution as is needed.
Requirements:
- Tertiary qualification in accounting.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Proficient in Excell.
- Preference for candidates who have completed their articles.
- Advantage will be given to candidates who have 1-2 years post articles experience as an accountant or similar position.

The candidate should be able to work well under pressure, adapt easily to change, be deadline driven, capable of managing multiple deliverables and to prioritise as is needed, should be comfortable with managing deliverables of other team members, reliable, trustworthy and hardworking. We are looking for an individual with a willingness to learn and to improve on existing processes. Strong attention to detail is required.

The role offers a competitive salary based on qualifications and experience. Employees will become members of a provident fund after their probation period. Additionally, there is an annual shutdown in December/January during the builder’s holiday.
